ORGANISERS of Family Week 2018 are promoting the importance of household meal times by hosting a breakfast of their own.

Families and councillors gathered at the launch of the Family Week breakfast in Harristown on Tuesday, the pancake afternoon tea a taster of what is to come.

Red Frogs founder Andy Gourley will be the guest speaker of this year’s breakfast, which will be held on October 17 at Highlands Church.

“This year we will be celebrating coming together as a family and promoting eating at least one meal together, which we believe helps with both family and community health,” councillor Geoff McDonald said during the launch.

“Andy will speak of the importance of family, and, drawing from his experience of assisting with Schoolies, how we must look out for people wherever we go.

“It’s important to stop, pause, put down the technology and sit down to a family dinner once in a while and this is what we are hoping to promote.”

Two Red Frog volunteers attended the breakfast launch, providing the charity’s staple pancakes to guests.

“We know the effects of family break-up,” Family Week chairman Ken Wootton said.

“So we want to make sure every family, no matter what they look like, stays connected.

“Andy has a lot to say on the topic, and will highlight how to grow these loving connections.”
