THE BULL and Barley Inn is an authentic 1900s old-world pub and along with its incredible menu, it’s a place residents just can’t get enough of.
The Cambooya pub opened in 1902, as was one of only three pubs in the region.
It has been owned and operated by Bruce Dell and his family for the past 11 years.
As part of The Chronicle’s Best Of series for 2018, Facebook readers were asked to nominate their favourite pub.
The poll is usually dominated by the Meringandan Pub, but this year the Bull and Barley Inn took out the top spot.
Mr Dell said what made his pub stand out from the others in town was its relaxed feel and hearty country meals.
“The Bull and Barley Inn is a unique hotel with colonial charm that has been beautifully restored to its former grandeur while retaining its historic lines,” he said.
Popular menu favourites are baked sticky pork chop, the South African bunny chow, our fresh barramundi karumba and gourmet pizzas.
Mr Dell said he was overwhelmed with the online response.
“It’s rewarding for the management and staff who work so hard to ensure the satisfaction of our patrons,” he said.
“People love the break from the city, enjoy the country drive to Cambooya and the atmosphere and character of the hotel itself.”
Residents couldn’t give the Bull and Barley Inn enough praise for its good food, friendly service and colonial charm.
Michelle Jensen said: “Bull and Barley Inn has amazing service. Everything is very reasonably priced.”
Donna Sorrensen said: “Bull and Barley Inn. The publican does truly know your name and they have the friendliest service and fantastic meals.”
Lesley Jarrett said: “The Bull and Barley Inn where the service is friendly and efficient, meals are great and atmosphere lives up to the promise. Country pub style - no TAB, pokies just a great pub.”
The Bull and Barley Inn is open seven days a week and is at 61 Eton St, Cambooya.
