Autocare locks in site at port
A LEADING automotive logistics company has secured a large slice of a growing industrial estate in the Port of Brisbane, giving it two major facilities on either side of the river.
Autocare has expanded its finished vehicles services to the Port West Estate in a multimillion-dollar 10-year leasing deal.
Part of LINX Cargo Care Group, Autocare has leased 100,000sq m from the Port of Brisbane, plus a further 50,000sq m to cater for future growth.
The new storage facility will enable Autocare to process an additional 5500 motor vehicles a year close to the wharf which will reduce storage costs and improve delivery times to dealerships.
The Autocare site will have a large pavement areas, 8ha of hail mesh and a washbay facility, all delivered by the Port’s property team with civil construction group BMD.
Port of Brisbane chief executive Roy Cummins said the Port of Brisbane and Autocare have had a productive commercial relationship since 2006.
“Their facilities on Fisherman Islands will now be complemented by this massive expansion in the Port West estate, giving Autocare more flexibility for their operations in proximity to the wharves and terminals where their vehicles arrive,” he said.
The Autocare deal follows other commitments to Port West from Stora Enso, Queensland Glass and Steelforce.
Autocare chief executive Victor Tello said the deal would enhance the company’s service delivery in the biggest capital city port in Australia.
“Expanding Autocare’s finished vehicle logistics services to the Port West estate means we increase our support for the local economy while providing our national customers with secure handling, cost savings and improved transit times,” he said.
“The Australian automotive industry will benefit from the extra storage and processing options our world-class facility will offer, which combines location and advances in technology to deliver high quality, reliable vehicle handling solutions.”
