Cooinda sale record

Nunya sets record for Cooinda bull sale at $22,000

-

REPEAT buyers were out in force and helped to post a solid result for the Fox Family at their eighth annual Cooinda Santa Gertrudis bull sale, held on-property at Sunnyview, Proston, on September 22. The Cooinda bull sale had an 87 per cent clearance, selling 47 of the 54 bulls they had on offer to an average of $5500.

Setting a new sale record for Chris amd Elisa Fox was the 21 month old Cooinda Nunya N582 (PS), who sold for $22,000 to Gayndah’s Woodmillar Santa Gertrudis stud, operated by Neil, Lance, Kym, Hugo and Lawson Baker.

From the first crop of calves by new sire Cardona Odyssey, Nunya has always been a standout and typifies the type of bull Cooinda aims to breed. Weighing in at 840kg and doing 1.28kg/day, Nunya scanned well, returning an EMA of 134 square cm and an IMF of 5.6 per cent.

“His gentle nature, weight for age and incredible volume and softness will deliver so many benefits to his new herd, and we look forward to seeing his progeny coming through in years to come,” Mrs Fox said.

“The Baker family has been selecting Cooinda bulls for many years now so we knew that they liked our cattle but for them to step up and pay stud money for this bull, it’s gratifying to know that they trust our genetics to help get their own stud herd going.”

Woodmillar stud principal Lance Baker admits that bidding on Nunya was “quite nerve wracking” but he wasn’t prepared to miss him.

“He’s the best I’ve seen this year and as far as we are concerned, he’s the complete package,” Mr Baker said.

“It’s not often these days that you see a dark, tropical skinned bull with phenomenal growth and volume and a perfect sheath.

“He looks like a proper santa gertrudis bull – and if all that wasn’t enough, he’s got an awesome nature too.

“Dad has already been out and given him a scratch in the paddock the day after he arrived here – you can’t ask for much more than that.”

Repeat buyers were spoilt for choice and made the most of the bulls presented with over 80 per cent of the draft selling to returning buyers. Russell Mocker, Surprise, St George picked up the second top price bull in Lot 10 Cooinda No No No No Yes N556 for $10 000, and bought three more sires to average $7500.

Long-time supporters, Todd and Melissa Wathen, Golden Pastoral Holdings bought two bulls to average $9000. GM Pedersen & Son, Wyseby, Rolleston, selected seven bulls to average $3857.

Jenkinson Grazing, Hawkwood, Mundubbera, bought six bulls to average $4750. MG and L Elgey, Townley Station, Forsayth, bought four bulls to average $4000. Cooinda bulls went as far south as Warwick, north to Forsayth in the Gulf country, west to Roma and St George, and east to Maryborough.
