Friend steps in to a win
STEPPING in for her best friend, Cassie Bush, from Cootamundra, New South Wales, led Kanimbla Harmony to victory.
Kanimbla Harmony, which took out the hereford supreme exhibit, is teenagers’ Thomas Holt and Jordan Alexander’s cow.
Jordan was unable to make it to the show to lead her cow, so her good friend took her place.
“It’s a shame she missed it, but when I told her she was so ecstatic she started to cry,” Cassie said.
The friends met through their parents, who both show cattle, and it was the first time Cassie had been to the Melbourne show.
“Thomas’s mum and Jordan’s godmother Sophie Holt invited me along with them to experience the show and I am so glad I did,” Cassie said.
Ms Holt said the family had been coming to the show for years.
“We love showing, and it’s a great place for the kids to grow up,” Ms Holt said.
“They work hard and learn a lot.
“Great friendships are made as well, which you can see with Cass and Jordan.”
The cow was bought from Kanimbla Poll Herefords at the Royal Sydney Show for Thomas and Jordan a few years ago.
The grand champion hereford bull was Grangeview Park Mascot, from Grangeview Park Poll Herefords.
Stud principal Rod Bowles said it was a special moment, which he enjoyed celebrating with his three children Chloe, 20, Brayden, 18, and Bronte, 15, all of whom helped out with the exhibit.
“The bull’s sire, Wagga Caesar won two grand champions here in 2014 and 2015,” Mr Bowles said.
