A new line of genetics breeds stud’s best bulls

BULLAMAKINKA Santa Gertrudis Stud is holding its fifth annual bull sale at Bullamakinka, Westmar, on Friday, October 12. Stud owner Craig Hindle said this year’s sale bulls had been carefully selected from a draft of over 600 stud cows with a focus on quality. There will be 61 lots on offer with 43 polled or scurred. Mr Hindle said they have invested in new genetics this year, and are very happy with the bulls they’ve produced. “This year’s draft is well represented by our recent investment in new sires including first sons of Dangarfield X-Box (P) $62,500 and Rosehill Jameson (PS) $45,000. “Dangarfield X-Box recently produced the top priced Dangarfield sale bull for $72,500 and is producing very thick-set and correct cattle.” Mr Hindle said the sale has been put back from the normal sale time in September due to seasonal conditions. “We believe October sales better suit cattle breeders requirements when they need bulls for the coming joining season,” he said. “It’s been a really poor season, one of our worst seasons since we’ve been there since 2006. There has been some rain around, and the santa sales have held up pretty well this year. “There is always a market for quality bulls, so you just have to put up quality bulls. “It’s hard to know how it (the sale) will go but we’ve had a bit of enquiry so we’re hopeful. “It’s probably our best line of bulls that we’ve had, we’re pretty happy with them.”
