DEMOCRACY

-

AT LAST it is official, in the eyes of the world we are the Coup Capital of the World and our democracy is in major crisis.

Channel Nine journalist Chris Uhlmann reports a “catastrophic loss of faith in democracy”.

The University of Canberra’s Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis, has tracked an alarming decline in the Australian people’s faith in democracy since 2007.

I have written to the media over several years on this very issue. The Australian people still continue to install their favourite party with factions and infighting, instead of creating a positive democratic change for our country.

Currently only a dismal 42% of Australians are satisfied with our “democracy” which is a sad indictment of our parliamentary system and all of the ministers in it.

Australia’s entire democratic system is well and truly due for a massive overhaul by booting out all of these self-centred pollies, and installing leaders who care for our wonderful country and its people.

The preference voting system in elections must be abolished, and a one-person-one-vote be established which will avoid the current situation where all the wrong people are installed to govern.

A true democracy ought not to have parties, but independent candidates who have the good of Australia as their goal and vote in the house with their heart.

In the world of politics, Australian democracy is the joke of the year. BRIAN SAYERS, Millmerran
