Murder charges mentioned in Toowoomba court
POLICE are continuing to compile evidence in a bid to convict two people over the 2015 murder of Brisbane man Sam Price-Purcell, the city’s Magistrates Court heard.
One of the accused, Owen James Harris, had his charges of murder and interfering with a corpse mentioned yesterday where his lawyer Andrew Spinks claimed police had provided only partial elements of their case against him.
Mr Spinks told the court that “large amounts (of evidence) remain outstanding”.
His client and co-accused Michael Jay Evans, also charged with murder, were arrested in June after a major breakthrough in the case.
Harris was arrested in Roma and had his matter initially heard in the town’s court before it was transferred to Toowoomba.
Magistrate Damien Carroll noted given the alleged offence occurred three years ago, forensic material would likely hold up a murder charge going through the courts.
Harris’ matters were adjourned to be heard back in the same court on November 15, though his case will eventually go to the Supreme Court.
Mr Price-Purcell was last seen getting into a yellow Holden Commodore in the Brisbane suburb of Mitchelton on February 16, 2015, travelling to Toowoomba in the company of others.
Investigators recovered that car in May after searches of properties in Helidon and Leyburn as part of the ongoing probe.
His body has never been found.
