TOOWOOMBA Hospital Foundation wants to raise $100,000 by December to help care for the region’s littlest patients.

The foundation hopes to raise the cash through events during October to December, to purchase equipment for the Toowoomba Hospital’s paediatric unit and special care nursery.

At the official launch of the children’s appeal yesterday, chief executive officer Alison Kennedy said the hospital was expected to go through changes in the next couple of years.

“The hospital will be going digital which means the paediatric ward will have to move out for a little while to another unit and then move back in,” Mrs Kennedy said.

“This will give us the opportunity to place decals on the walls, refurbish life-saving equipment and playground. A whole lot of exciting stuff will be coming to the paediatric ward.”

The events the foundation have organised for the appeal include the Mylonas Richter Golf Day, Melbourne Cup Luncheon, A Christmas Wish and more.

“We really like to keep our families together and so when children are sick, we don’t want them to have to travel,” Mrs Kennedy said.

“So, if we can have the most up-to-date equipment and the most skill staff in our region, then we are doing really well.

“We can’t do this with out help from our community and there’s no better time to give back and help give our children the best start in life than right now.”
