DDSWQ to host Wynnum

- – Jason Gibbs

CRICKET: After opening their season with three away games, DDSWQ are looking forward to being at home.

Playing host to Wynnum at Toowoomba Grammar School, Darling Downs South West Queensland will be chasing their first Lord’s Taverners win tomorrow.

Coach Paul Toohey said the key to victory was simple.

“We need to take our chances in the field,” he said.

“We’ve started the season with three defeats but we haven’t played poorly.

“Part of our preparation for this game has been reinforcing the things we have done and talking about what we need to do better.

“We’ve spoken at length about the need to field well.

“It’s an opportunity for us to ram home an advantage by putting pressure on the opposition and taking our chances.”

In their last match against Redlands, DDSWQ posted 217 runs off their 50 overs.

Redlands chased down the total with six wickets in hand and seven overs remaining.

Despite the relative comfort of the run chase, Toohey was happy with how DDSWQ performed with the bat and ball.

“I was pretty happy with how we batted,” he said.

“We just gave them too many chances, that is what cost us.

“We weren’t able to build pressure.”
