A MAJOR private school in Toowoomba’s western suburbs wants to make extensions to its campus.

Darling Downs Christian School in Glenvale submitted plans last week with the Toowoomba Regional Council to build a new senior building.

According to the planning report by John Gaskell Planning Consultant­s, the two-storey structure would feature an array of classrooms and learning areas to cover a variety of discipline­s.

The proposed building will comprise an art room, storage/ preparatio­n rooms, office, administra­tion room, IT room, kitchenett­e, verandah, outdoor learning area and undercroft at the ground floor,” it said.

“(It will also comprise) two general learning areas, three flexible learning areas, two storage/withdrawal rooms, verandah and outdoor learning area at the first-floor level.

“The proposed change will not result in an increase in student population.

“Essentiall­y the proposed building will provide updated facilities for staff and students.”

The school will also demolish the original building on the north-eastern side of the campus and build a new 23-space car park as well.

The matter is now with the council.
