Family to offload pubs

Revamped venues up for grabs

- CHRIS HERDE

THE family that owns one of Fortitude Valley’s iconic watering holes has put its two historic Southeast Queensland pubs on the market.

Les and Diana Pullos will sell the Samford Valley and Woodford Village hotels and put their energy into their Royal George Hotel which is one of the largest trading hotels in Brisbane.

The family has owned the Samford Valley and Woodford hotels since 2003 and since then both pubs have undergone extensive extensions, upgrading and refurbishment.

Power & Jeffrey’s Robert Hunter, who is marketing the properties, said the Southeast Queensland hotels market was tightly held and demand would be high for both pubs.

“We expect these hotels to create a strong level of interest from existing hoteliers both private and corporate and from Queensland and interstate,” he said.

There are expectations that combined, the hotels will sell for about $12 million.

The first hotel in Samford in Brisbane’s northwestern suburbs was built in 1906, destroyed by fire, rebuilt and was known variously as Samford Hotel, Railway Hotel or O’Hara’s Hotel.

The single-level hotel was moved from Dayboro Rd to its present Main St location about a 100 years ago and in the 1950s became known as the Golden Valley Hotel.

Its name was changed to the Samford Valley Hotel when it was bought by the Pullos family.

After the extensive renovations the hotel has 28 gaming machines, extensive alfresco dining areas for more than 370 and a detached bottle shop in the nearby Samford Central Shopping Centre.

The Woodford Village Hotel on Archer St in the town 72km northwest of Brisbane was built around 1914.

After the Pullos family’s refurbishment, its facilities include dining capacity for more than 300 persons, 28 gaming machines, function capacity, a 10-unit motel and managers’ quarters as well as a detached bottle shop in the shopping centre next door.
