RACING: Clifford Park and Warwick Turf Club share the spotlight in a busy weekend for Darling Downs racing participants.

Toowoomba racing moves this week from its traditional Saturday night home to tonight when a seven-race Clifford Park card jumps at 6.15pm.

The early weekend start for Clifford Park makes way for Warwick’s biggest annual race day headed by the Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup (1500m).

The $25,000 cup shares top billing on the seven-event Allman Park TAB card with the Frasers Livestock Transport Warwick Newmarket (1100m).

Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie holds a strong hand in both features.

He saddles in-form top weight Isn’t She Elegant and Deconstructed in the 12-horse cup field.

Currie is represented in the Newmarket Benchmark 70 by Clifford Park specialist Isis Magic, who has been handicapped with a crushing 64.5kg

‘‘ WE’LL HOPEFULLY WORK OUT WHERE TO GO NEXT AFTER SATURDAY’S RACE. KEVIN KEMP

but will benefit from a 3kg allowance for apprentice Leah Kilner, and Mishani Shiraz.

The Warwick Cup has gained some added spice with well-performed Sunshine Coast mare Trois Choix lining up for trainer David Vandkye, with Ron Goltz to ride.

The seven-year-old is chasing a third straight victory following her latest 1600-metre Open Handicap win at Corbould Park on September 30.

Meanwhile Clifford Park trainer Kevin Kemp and jockey Nozi Tomizawa tackle southern spring features tomorrow.

Tomizawa continues his successful association with Gold Coast mare Sylpheed in the Group Three Cape Grim Beef Stakes at Caulfield.

Kemp travelled to Sydney overnight on Wednesday with Sold For Song who returns from a disappointing secondup Doomben run in tomorrow’s Group Three Sydney Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

“It’s a very, very strong race and she’s drawn the outside gate,” Kemp said from Rosehill.

“But she’s had a good break and I really think she’s over that second-up race which is probably the worst she has put in.

“She’s trialled really good since and we’ll hopefully work out where to go next after Saturday’s race.”
