Prices improve up to 32c/kg
ROMA
CATTLE numbers fell by 709 head to 5841 at the Roma Store Sale. Cattle were yarded from a wide supply area with a large portion drawn from western Queensland. The overall quality of the yarding was varied and demand was strong for quality lines of younger cattle. The usual panel of buyers was present and operating. Prices increased across the better quality lines with both light weight and medium weight yearling steers improving by up to 18c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers improved by up to 32c/kg. Other categories of cattle saw mainly quality related price changes.
A good sample of light weight yearling steers to restockers sold to 311.2c to average 292c, while a fair sample of light weight yearling steers sold to 324.2c to average of 289c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed sold to 294.2c to average 286c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers sold to 274.2c to average 259c, while light weight heifers 200-280kg sold to 300c to average 251c/kg.
Light weight grown steers to feed sold to 281.2c to average 278c/kg. A fair sample of grown heifers to slaughter sold to 250.2c to average 248c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 225.2c to average 203c, while heavy weight cows sold to 258.2c to average 242c/kg. A fair sample of light weight bulls to restockers saw a top price of 272.2c selling to an average of 245c/kg.
WARWICK
FOLLOWING some useful rainfall across parts of the supply area numbers only reduced by 74 to 947 head at Warwick. There was a wide variation in quality from poor condition classes through to well presented supplementary fed lines. Buyer attendance was generally good and most were operating. Prices improved across classes of young cattle with gains of 10c to 20c/kg being fairly common. A small sample of heavy grown steers and bullocks also sold to a dearer trend. Cows varied in price according to quality with some improvement in places, but across the largest samples prices remained close to the previous week’s level.
A few steer calves returning to the paddock reached 302.2c to average 291c/kg. A handful of vealer steers sold to the local butcher trade for 299.2c, while a couple of outstanding vealer heifers made to 321.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 289.2c to average 276c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 314.2c, with a good sample averaging about 290c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 280c with one pen reaching 317.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 275c and made to 284.2c, with a handful to the trade reaching 304.2c/kg.
Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 309.2c to average 308c and a couple of bullocks made to 306.2c/Kg. Light weight poor condition cows returned to the paddock for 142c and medium weights averaged 170c/kg. Medium weight two score cows to processors averaged 195c and made to 201.2c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 257.2c, with most making close to 250c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 250.2c/kg.
TOOWOOMBA
INSTANCES of isolated rainfall over parts of the supply area reduced supply of stock by 155 head to 695. Overall quality was mixed apart from a few well presented yearling steers and heifers, ideally suited to the local trade market, plus a handful of supplementary fed bullocks. Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged over 20c/kg better and a small number of yearling steers to feed for the domestic market also experienced some improvements. Light weight yearling heifers sold to a dearer trend. Plain condition cows could not maintain the level of the previous sale two weeks ago, while the better end of the cows received very little to no change in price for the quality penned.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 303.2c to average 273c, while the lesser quality lines averaged 224c/kg. Yearling steers in the 280-330kg weight category made to 295.2c to average 283c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to the local trade market made to 289.2c to average 286c/kg. Heavy yearling steers over 400kg to the trade sold
to 295c, with a fair sample averaging 283c/kg. The better end of the light weight yearling heifers made to 246.2c to average 237c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market made to 266.2c to average 253c, while medium weights to the trade made to 286.2c to average 266c/kg.
A handful of heavy grown steers made to 279.2c and some well presented supplementary fed bullocks made to 306.2c/kg. Medium weight two score cows average 189c with some to 205.2c/kg. Poor condition heavy cows averaged close to 201c, while the heavy three scores averaged 225c/kg. A couple of good heavy cows made to 244.2c/kg. Heavy bulls averaged 242c and made to 264.2c with one returning to the paddock at 268.2c/kg.
DALBY
RAIN in parts of the supply area reduced numbers by 1624 head to 3414 at Dalby. Buyer attendance was good and included some interstate operators in the feeder sections. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 12c to 17c/kg better and medium weight yearling heifers experienced some small improvements. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 12c/kg dearer. The younger end of the heavy grown steers and bullocks were in demand with plain condition cows experiencing very little change, while the better cows lifted in price by 8c/kg.
Yearling steers in the 330-400kg range made from 273.2c to 293.2c up by 6c to average 284.3c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to process sold from 265.2c to 270.2c averaging 266c/kg.
Medium weight grown steers in the 500-600kg range sold from 275.2c to 306.2c to average 289c, while grown heifers up to 540kg made from 248.2c to 255c to average 252.3c/kg. Heavy cows made from 240.2c to 260.2c to average 252.7c/kg. The best heavy bull made to 286.2c/kg.
BIGGENDEN
BURNETT Livestock & Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday, October 8, saw a yarding of 919 head. The meatworks market was affected by quality and volume, easing on last sale. Feeder steer prices lifted reflecting the good quality volume lines offered and weaner cattle were harder to shift while buyers wait for more rain and look for more consistent lines of weaners. Plainer type store cattle contributed to the softening market averages.
Bullocks over 600kg sold to 287c, easing 3c on last sale. Trade bullocks 500kg-600kg sold to 291c, back 3c, and cows over 500kg sold to 252c, back 6c. Cows 400 to 500kg sold to 235c, back 10c. Feeder steers 400kg to 500kg sold to a top of 288c, up 8c, while steers 300kg to 400kg sold to 283c, up 6c. Steers 200kg to 300kg sold to 279c, down 6c on last fortnight. Heifers 300kg to 400kg sold for 244c, back 18c and heifers 200kg to 300kg sold to 240c, down 14c.
Four tooth santa cross bullocks from Wandoan sold for 287c/$1768. Four tooth brangus bullocks from Murgon sold for 275c/$1713. Droughtmaster bullocks from Gin Gin sold for 260c/$1886. Two and four tooth santa cross bullocks from Wandoan sold for 291c/$1732.
A line of 72 milk and two tooth charbray steers from Bundaberg sold to a top of 288c/$1383.
MURGON
EXPORT and feedlot types again sold to strong rates in Murgon on Tuesday with agents yarding 500 head. Numbers were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry Biggenden, Kingaroy, Yarraman and locally. Heavy bulls topped at $2.67c/kg for $2658.00.
Bullocks sold to $2.99c/kg and $1959.
Heavy cows also sold to slightly dearer rates topping at $2.53c/kg and $1560. Cows 400-500kg sold to $2.41c/kg, averaging $2.03c/kg.
Lighter cows under 400kg sold to a top of $2.17c/kg. 495kg droughtmaster steers from Wondai sold to $2.78c/kg to return $1378.
Brangus steers from Murgon sold to $2.72c/kg at 405kg for $1104. A line of droughtmaster weaner steers from Manumbar sold to $627 for 222kg and $2.82c/kg. Charolais cross weaner steers from Wooroonden sold for $2.68c/kg. 465kg brahman heifers sold to $1209 at $2.60c/kg. Two pens of angus heifers from Yarraman sold to $2.32c/kg and $2.25c/kg for $586 and $492.
Three pens of light droughtmaster cross heifers from Manumbar sold for $2.30c/kg, $2.35c/kg and $2.59c/kg. Cows and calves were in limited numbers and sold to a top of $1200.
LISMORE
500 cattle were sold at the monthly Lismore Store sale last Saturday.
Patchy rain lifted spirits and steers prices.
Good weaner steers sold in the $2.60 to $2.86/kg range with most returning $500 to $780.
A few 18-month-old steers sold from $2.40 to $2.56/kg.
Weaner heifers sold from $1.80 to $2.28/kg and lightweights $1.50 to $2.35/kg.
Good young breeders sold to strong competition most in the $1280 to $1460 range.
Older cows and calves sold from $450 to $900 depending on frame and potential.
On Tuesday at the Lismore yards another 150 cattle were sold.
Prices were similar to recent weeks.
Prime vealers sold from $2.15 to $2.36/kg.
Restockers paid from $1.55 to $2.20/kg for heifers and $2 to $2.42/kg for steers.
Heavy cows sold from $2.10 to $2.36/kg.
CASINO
NUMBERS on offer were similar to the previous week at NRLX, where 855 head were yarded.
There were a small number of supplementary fed vealers and yearlings selling slightly dearer, where vealers made to 267.2c/kg realising $1070.92 for Glen and Vicki Cole and yearlings made 236.2c/kg, $987.00 and sold by Mondoro Pty Ltd. Larger numbers of plainer conditioned re stocker weaners were on offer with prices slipping up to 15c/kg in price.
Overall steers, heifers and cows in good condition sold well, with steers fetching $1498.50 and topped at 270c/kg for Darryl Amos, heifers 254.2c/kg for $1271 and sold by Craig Fowler and cows topped at 250.2c/kg, sold by Stephen Jarrett for $1532.58.
There was a good line-up of bulls on offer where prices increase slightly, with the bestselling for 248.2c/kg $1897.58 and sold by Brian and M Creedy.
T and W McCormack and Ramsey Bulmer held the store sale on Friday where a total yarding of 486 + calves were sold, where a large percentage were of plainer condition.
Most of the better steers went to Queensland.
The heifers and cows and calves were bought by local buyers.
Cows and calves sold to $1400 for Lynette Garrett and dry cows made $800 and sold by Barry Rose.
There were 270 live weight steers sold to top at 306.2c/kg making $1408.62 and sold by Frank Spinaze.
