Softballers determined to represent Queensland
SOFTBALL: Zac Erlandson and Lincoln Walker have had their fair share of success with Queensland.
The talented young duo is taking nothing for granted though.
Named in Queensland’s under-19 training squad, they have set their sights on being part of the final team to contest January’s national championships.
Should he make the cut it will be the second time, Walk, 16, has lined up for the U19 side.
“It’s always exciting to be part of the squad,” Walk said.
“Hopefully I can make the cut and play for Queensland again.”
The young pitcher said he would focus on doing the fundamentals well during the state training camp.
“You have to do the basics right,” Walk said.
“I like to think I’ve got a bit of speed and a few different pitches but you still have to hit your spots.
“You’ve got to do the fundamentals right and try your best
to step up a show your stuff.”
Utility player Erlandson, 18, will take the exact same focus in the training camp.
“It’s all about focusing on doing the basics right,” he said.
“I love being amongst it and
making the big plays but you have to focus on the fundamentals first.
“You’ve got to field the ball well and make sure your throws are good.”
Erlandson, who has won a
national title with the Queensland U17 side, is looking forward to his new challenge.
“Hopefully I can draw on my past experience,” he said.
“I’d love to be part of the under-19 side.”
Toowoomba will also have a representative in the Queensland U19 women’s team.
Monique Smith has been named in the final squad which will compete at the 2019 Australian U19 Championships.
