TWO friends are leading an

ABBA resurgence, bringing their ABBA-solutely Fabulous production to Toowoomba to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the pop group’s visit to Australia.

Rhonda Burchmore OAM and Lara Mulcahy, the original dynamos from the worldwide sensation Mamma Mia! are the stars of the production, which combines comedy and Abba hits.

“I met Lara during the making of the original Mamma Mia! production in 2001, and we remained tight friends ever since,” Ms Burchmore said.

“Both of us have been fans of ABBA since we were young, but we unfortunately were not able to make it to their Australian concert all those years ago.

“And now, on the anniversary, we thought it was fitting to produce this show - in a strange way ABBA has never really gone away.”

Ms Burchmore said the production used ABBA songs to tell the story of modern living.

“It’s the story of us growing up in the 70s,” she said.

“We touch on things like the boyfriends we had when we were growing up, and using tinder, and we mix it up with ABBA hits.”

She said the show, which has previously sold out across the state, often left people dancing in the aisles.

“It’s the little show with the big heart, and that’s what people walk away with,” Ms Burchmore said. “The physical comedy in the show is hilarious, Lara and I are look like Danny DeVito and Arnie Schwarzenegger standing next to each other in our Lycra.

“I think one of the other really big messages we want to share is the importance of girl power - we are at a certain age but we will still get up there and strut our stuff.”

The performance will be held at the Empire theatre this Saturday.
