Hummingbird House to benefit
TOOWOOMBA shoppers can add philanthropy to their weekly grocery run with Coles supermarkets supporting the state’s only children’s hospice.
Hummingbird House, based in Brisbane, provides a home away from home for more than 120 children and their families at no cost.
The organisation has partnered with Coles which will sell specially designed $2 donation cards at Toowoomba stores with proceeds helping Hummingbird House continue to provide short break stays, family support services, creative therapies, and care for children with life-limiting conditions.
The cards are on sale through to October 30.
Hummingbird House general manager Dr Fiona Hawthorne said Coles’ support had been transformational for the hospice.
The four Hummingbird House donation card designs have been drawn by children and their families who have used the hospice’s services.
Mikaela Norris, 17, who has limited use of her hands, painted one of the donation card designs with a brush in her mouth.
“I have had a few long stays at the hospice so my parents can have a break too, and it’s great to be able to hang out with the really cool staff and some of the other kids as well,” she said.
Coles state general manager Jerry Farrell said the company was delighted to continue its partnership with Hummingbird House.
Coles will also donate 15 cents to Hummingbird House from every pack 12 pack of Coles Bakery cookies.
The donation cards are on sale at Toowoomba Plaza, Toowoomba North, Clifford Gardens and Highfields stores.
