Limited-edition coins to collect
IT’S more than a moment of silence.
This November 11 marks the centenary of Armistice Day, and the end of World War I — one hundred years since the moment that changed lives, and saved lives. The moment that stopped the madness.
As the significant anniversary approaches, News Corp Australia this month celebrates the true strength and spirit of the Anzacs by announcing a limited-edition 15day coin collection for readers.
Developed in partnership with Westpac, Legacy, and the Royal Australian Mint, the coins are inspired by the Australian War Memorial’s stunning, yet sombre, Hall of Memory.
The hall is known for its 15 stained-glass windows, representing the virtues that characterise the men and women who fought 100 years ago; and those who have continued to serve, right up to the present day, to keep Australians safe.
Each coin is labelled for one of those characteristics and each tells a story. Resilience. Chivalry. Loyalty. Devotion. And more.
It is a story of strength and courage. Our Defence Forces continue to be united, curious and confident — they are the values that define our nation.
To be officially unveiled at the Australian War Memorial on Thursday, the iconic collection will not only thank those who serve in uniform, they will also acknowledge those on the home front.
Like the #ThanksForServing movement, the collection honours veterans from World War I through to the men and women of today’s Defence Forces — and reminds us of the impressive traits that allowed them to keep going. To persevere, united by patriotism.
The first of 15 coins, together with a unique collector’s album, will be free with purchase of The Sunday Mail this weekend.
After that, a different coin will be released daily for two weeks, costing $3 with The Chronicle. All are legal tender, and for the first time, the collection will include 50-cent pieces.
