Randall holds off field for first win

-

MOTOR SPORT: Justin Randall secured his first feature race win in nail-biting fashion at the weekend.

Starting from ninth on the grid, Randall won the Brims Concrete Super Sedan Series race ahead of a fast finishing Matt Pascoe.

It was thrilling night for fans at Toowoomba’s Hi Tec Oils Speedway as very little separated the top five cars during the race.

Current Queensland champion Pascoe was lucky to be in contention late in the race after a incident on lap three.

After a brief lapse in concentration, Pascoe gathered himself and was forced to run three wide down the main straight.

Pascoe was soon back on the pace though after the race’s first stoppage.

Brenden Doyle spun out with 35 laps remaining to force a restart.

From the restart Pascoe started to make his presence felt, passing Trent Wilson.

The pair bought out the best in each other over the ensuing laps with Pascoe favouring the low lines while Wilson tried his hand higher up.

With all eyes on the front of the pack, Randall was steadfastly working his way through the field

The next stoppage came with 15 laps to go when Shane Lau spun around to face the oncoming traffic.

By this time Randall was edging closer to the top five drivers.

With 10 laps to go Randall slipped past Pascoe to take the lead before a restart with one lap remaining halted his momentum.

From the restart it was a two lap sprint to the finish with Randall holding out thePascoe who made a last second charge down the inside to the flag.

“It’s a really nice start,” Randall said.

“I’m happy for the whole team.

“It’s really nice to put this car on the front, beating the big guys, especially seeing as I’m the rookie.”
