Injury hurts team’s Queensland Cup hopes
SOFTBALL: Toowoomba’s Queensland Cup dreams were cruelled by an injury at the weekend.
Facing just his second batter, Mark Harris tweaked his back – side-lining him for the remainder of the tournament.
Going down to just one specialist pitcher was too difficult a hurdle to overcome, according to player Adam King.
“It was really unfortunate when we lost Mark (Harris),” King said.
“Normally you’d only expect your pitcher to throw one or two games but he (Jay Selu) ended up throwing six or seven for us.
“We had a couple of young guys who chipped in but we just ran out of the steam in the end.
“We did produce some pretty good performances, though.
“I think we scored 19 or 20 runs on the first day which is unheard of for Toowoomba.”
There were plenty of positives from the weekend for Toowoomba Softball Association, though.
TSA’s B-team were runners-up in the Open Championship.
Losing to rivals in Ipswich in the grand final, King said the young were excellent over the weekend.
“They looked really good all weekend,” he said.
“They lost the final but they deserve a lot of credit. They played great and Ipswich are a very strong team.”
