On journey to find love

Toowoomba singles hope to find perfect partner

TOOWOOMBA singles are looking for love, with many wanting to find that special someone to spend their lives with.

From young university students and those in their late 20s, to those who are looking for another shot at love later in life, there is no shortage of eligible singles in the Garden City.

Three Bachelor series have graced our television screens in 2018, starting off with Bachelor in Paradise, then the “Honey Badger’s” controversial season of The Bachelor and now Ali Oetjen is on a journey to find love on The Bachelorette.

With so much love filling our screens on a weekly basis, The Chronicle put out the call to the single men and women of Toowoomba.

And readers did not disappoint, with more than 1000 responses in 24 hours.

They were nominating themselves to be part of a series of articles which focus on Toowoomba’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.

It could be described as a classier, newspaper version of Tinder.

In today’s newspaper, as well as Monday’s we have featured the profiles of those who are serious about finding someone special.

Erin Flemming, 25, and Marshall Hanson, 21, are two young people looking for love.

Ms Flemming has been single for about three years and has been in one long-term relationship, and while it didn’t work out she hasn’t given up on finding someone.

“I’ve been single too long and it would be nice to have something more serious again,” she said.

“I just want someone who I can go through life with. I don’t want to settle down or anything yet but want someone to go travelling with and have fun.

“I want someone I can be really good friends with who also happens to be my boyfriend.”

She said she put forward her name in The Chronicle’s Bachelor series because she felt it was hard to meet people in Toowoomba.

“Tinder is not really for dating these days, it’s for hookups,” she said.

“And there isn’t a lot going on in Toowoomba where you can meet people. No social events or day events - it’s just clubbing and my dad always told me I would never find Mr Right in a pub.”

She said her ideal date wouldn’t be the standard movie and dinner, it would be doing something outdoors and fun, such as climbing Table Top and having a picnic or a day trip to Crows Nest Falls.

Mr Hanson agreed and said he would also give dinner and movies a swerve on a first date.

“You have to get to know someone first and to start out with I’d maybe take a girl to coffee so we could chat casually and then maybe ask her to dinner,” he said.

While Mr Hanson is still young and has never had a long-term relationship, he said he was looking for one. “All my friends are in relationships and I’m kind of the third wheel. It would be nice to have someone to do things with,” he said.

“I saw the link on Facebook to nominate yourself and thought I’d give it a crack. It can’t hurt and if I find someone, all the better.” Meet our Toowoomba singles looking for love on pages 8 and 9.
