TOOWOOMBA Regional Council took the time to show its appreciation by celebrating the entrants of this year’s The Chronicle Garden Competition.

The celebration was held at the Middle Ridge Golf Club on Thursday.

The competition and the Carnival of Flowers have run in conjunction for 69 years.

The Chronicle Garden Competition city gardens category grand champion Dianna Drew said she and her husband would enter next year’s competition.

“A lot of blood, sweat and tears has gone into our garden,” Mrs Drew said.

“We have been in the competition for 12 years and we have been grand champion twice and have won first place in numerous categories over the years.”

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Cr Paul Antonio said the entrants’ efforts in the competition helped solidify Toowoomba’s reputation as the Garden City.

The country gardens category grand champion Noela Rubb said this year was the most challenging of the competition.

“It was such an achievement to win this year with the conditions leading up to carnival such as frost, dry weather and the animals,” Mrs Rubb said.

“We’ll be entering in next year’s competition being the 70-year anniversary.”

Toowoomba Regional Council councillor Cr Geoff McDonald said the afternoon was a gift of acknowledgement from the community to the gardeners.

“Theses gardeners are ambassadors for our region,” Cr McDonald said.
