Pizza delivery job’s wheely appealing for Levi
Q&A with Levi Johns, e-bike delivery rider, Domino’s Pizza
WHY DID THIS JOB APPEAL TO YOU?
The offer came up to work here and I decided it seemed like a pretty cool job. It allowed me to be a lot more flexible with my hours than my previous job. I worked in a small business pizza shop in a previous job so had knowledge of the hospitality side of the business but, in terms of delivering, it was a bit foreign, but it made sense.
It’s more appealing (than working in a kitchen or at a checkout) because I was able to be outside and stay active rather than standing on my feet all day.
HOW FLEXIBLE IS IT?
I work part-time and do 30–35 hours most weeks, although last week I did literally one shift because I had to go somewhere. I wanted the flexibility to allow me time to train as a professional cyclist. I've been doing this for about eight or nine months.
WHERE TO NEXT?
At this stage, I am not looking to progress to a different part of the company but rather keep doing what I am doing now. It’s a job I may not hang around for if I start getting successful in the career I want (professional cycling) but it’s great for now as I have a good job and a good boss.
WHY SHOULD OTHER PEOPLE TRY YOUR JOB?
It’s definitely a fun job. It’s not just monotonously doing the same thing all the time.
You are doing deliveries but also you learn to serve customers and take orders and learn to handle cash and think quickly – all things that come in handy in the hospitality business.
