Ridge lady members in busy month

-

GOLF: Debbie Erlandson and Debbie Sheppard completed a busy October for Toowoomba Golf Club lady members when they combined on Thursday to win this year’s Foursomes Championship.

Their 36-hole victory followed the 2018 strokeplay and matchplay championships earlier this month.

Leanne Palmer won the strokeplay Silver division with Narine Frawley the Bronze I winner and Hellen Pearson taking out Bronze II.

The strokeplay event was followed by the matchplay tournament where four players from each grade battled it out “off the stick” for the title.

Winners were Trudy Dunne (Silver) and Tricia Harding (Bronze I) while Jan McSweeney won Bronze II in her first matchplay event.

The Toowoomba club’s ladies Pennants’ team added to the October celebrations when it clinched the Adam Falconer Shield to break City’s six-year stranglehold on the event.

Toowoomba’s victory was aided by an undefeated run of five victories by club president Tricia Harding to help take the shield back to Middle Ridge.

“It’s very exciting for us to regain the shield for the first time since 2011,” Harding said.

“We knew going into the last day if we won four of our five matches City couldn’t catch us and we were able to do it.

“A lot of the credit for the win goes to Marion Stell who did such a good job of selecting our team for each round.”
