Brackin shaping up for next career test

BOXING: Toowoomba’s Chris Brackin is preparing to concede superior ring experience to his upcoming opponent when he looks to continue his ring climb next Saturday night at Rumours International.

The former Stanthorpe junior will be aiming to make it six undefeated pro victories when he steps in against Townsville’s Mark Snook on the TGW & Smithy Bring The Big Fights 21 bill.

Brackin continued his exciting entry into the professional ranks with a unanimous points win over Michael Thornton at Rumours in August.

Trainer-promoter Brendon Smith has since been on the search for Brackin’s next opponent before securing Snook for his fighter’s next career examination.

“Snook is new to the pros and has had just the one fight, but he is a former veteran amateur with about 80 fights to his name,” Smith said.

“He’s fought some of Australia’s best and this is a step up for Chris.

“He was to fight Jed Ariens but since he was forced to withdraw I’ve had to search far and wide for a suitable replacement.

“It’s come at short notice, but Mark Snook has jumped at the chance of having his next pro fight against Chris who is building a reputation.

“Because of the short notice we might now be biting off more than we can chew.

“It’s a challenge now for Chris to be in the right mindset.

“It’s a risky fight for him, but we think we’re up for it.

“They both have similar attacking styles and this fight will be fought in a phone box.”

Other Toowoomba fighters appearing on the card include Steve Spark, Herman Ene-Purcell, Jaydii Kalambe, Chris Hamilton, Brent Moore and Steve Williams.
