IN THE space of one evening Christopher Keith Nelson decommissioned two police cars during a booze-fuelled incident.

But his two charges of wilful damage did not come from a violent outburst - they came from his spit.

The city’s Magistrates Court yesterday heard police attended a Wilsonton residence late at night earlier this month to find Nelson locked in and refusing to open the door.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden told the court when he did open the door, Nelson, 40, refused to let officers inside the doorway.

“(While in the back of the car) Nelson spat at the back of the perspex screen after being repeatedly told not to,” Sgt Bugden said.

“The vehicle had to be decontaminated and he was then put in the back of another vehicle as there was blood on his lip from a previous incident.

“(When he got into the second car) he again spat and forced that vehicle to be decontaminated.”

The court heard the vehicles were taken out of rotation for a number of days.

Nelson’s solicitor Joe McConnell submitted his client had poor criminal history until 15 years ago when the birth of his child forced him to “pull his head in”.

Mr McConnell told the court Nelson was intoxicated and had been drinking at a family funeral after steering clear of alcohol for a number of years.

Magistrate Kay Ryan fined Nelson $800 after he pleaded guilty to the two wilful damage charges and for obstructing police.
