Humidor set to miss race

-

HUMIDOR presented with swelling in his leg yesterday and looks unlikely to take his place in the Mackinnon Stakes.

Trainer Darren Weir said that while he had been set for the 2000m race on Saturday week at Flemington, the stayer was battling the issue in the wake of his third-placed Cox Plate finish.

“Unfortunately he’s got a bit of swelling in his leg this morning, so we don’t know the extent of it but at this stage it’s probably unlikely (that he will race),” he said.

“It’s a bit of a shame, because it’s the race that he’s sort of been set for. But that’s the hard thing about this week – you’re trying to get every inch out of your horse to try and get them to perform at their best in this week.

“Unfortunately things have gone a bit pear-shaped with a couple of them, but there’s a few that are going to present there in really good shape.”

Kings Will Dream did not finish the Cox Plate and was taken immediately to Ballarat vet clinic to battle what has become a serious issue.

It was revealed on Sunday that the horse had suffered a pelvic fracture and ruptured a blood vessel which part-owner Brad Spicer said had improved overnight.

“He has improved since yesterday in regards to his blood picture which was the main concern and will undergo bone scans midweek to determine the extent of his pelvic injury,” Spicer tweeted yesterday morning.
