THE Ridge Meats has been voted as having the best pies in town, and the owners put it down to fresh ingredients and family recipes.
Luke and Michelle Jensen bought the business at the Ridge Shoppingworld in June 2017 and also own Westridge Meats.
As part of The Chronicle’s Best Of series for 2018, Facebook readers were asked to nominate their favourite pie shop in Toowoomba.
The Ridge Meats was voted number one and while it is primarily a butcher, it also makes pies which customers just can’t get enough of.
Mrs Jensen said her mother Jan Garland cooked all the pies and the flavours differed at times, depending on what produce was available.
“Jan believes in only using fresh ingredients and makes her own roux,” she said.
“She learnt her skills and techniques from her mother, Nan Garland, when growing up on the family dairy farm.
“She takes great pride in her work, so much so she has her own trademark.
Each pie has a pastry animal on top depicting what filling is in the pie.
“It also helps that Westridge Meats was awarded the second best bacon in Queensland, which make our beef and bacon pies super tasty.
“We only make family-sized pies and they are available fresh and frozen. They are great to keep in the freezer for when you are pushed for time to cook dinner.”
Some of our pie flavours are chunky beef, beef and bacon, beef and mushroom, curry beef, pepper beef, cottage pie, savoury lamb, lamb’s fry and bacon, chicken and mushroom and chicken and vegetable.
Mrs Jensen said it was wonderful to receive so many votes from her loyal customers.
The Ridge Meats and Westridge Meats also offer a range of meat, ready to cook meals and already prepared meals that customers can just take home to eat.
