Uni tops the state in employment
GRADUATES from the University of Southern Queensland have the highest chance in the state for scoring a job once they leave university.
The 2018 Graduate Outcome Survey, released yesterday, revealed 91.3 per cent of 2014 USQ graduates were employed full time, the highest result for any university in Queensland.
Those graduates were earning on average $70,400, the third highest average salary in the state.
Maddison Gangi is set to graduate from her communications degree in April and said the results gave her “full confidence” that she would be able to find a job.
“I’ve already had a lot of help from lecturers to gain employment,” she said.
“We’ve even advice about negotiating salaries.
“The USQ staff really do step up and support you through that process.”
The graduate-to-be said she already had a public relations job lined up for when she graduates, thanks to a lecturer.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said the results emphasised similar figures from other studies.
“We are close to the community, we know what they need and we’re producing graduates who are getting jobs,” Prof Mackenzie said.
“We work closely with industry and business, so we know what they need.”
Prof Mackenzie said there was a strong demand for USQ graduates in regional areas.
“With that strong demand, it helps keep our graduates in the regions as we know if you’re trained here you usually stay here.
“That’s critical for the development of regional communities, regional economies and the social and intellectual capital of the region.”
