Rotary donates new playground

-

KATH Dickson Education and Care Centre director Kate Mason is grateful for Rotary Toowoomba East’s generosity.

The club unveiled a new playground fort for the Gladstone St childcare centre on Monday.

Ms Mason said the equipment was provided from a grant from Rotary International who selected the centre because of its work assisting newly arrived Yazidi families in Toowoomba.

“The new equipment has been a blessing for the centre,” Ms Mason said.

“We see play as one of the most important method of learning for children.

“Play has an important part of the healing process and helps children build trusting relationships.”

Rotary of Toowoomba East president Roger Klaassen said the club built the fort in about six hours on Saturday morning.

“We got a grant for around $6000 from the Rotary District Fund to build the new equipment,” Mr Klaassen said.

“To see the smiles on the children’s faces is just fantastic.”

The Kath Dickson Centre has been working closely with the Multicultural Development Australia to help the newly arrived Yazidi families settle in Toowoomba.

“We currently look after 14 children from nine families at the centre,” Ms Mason said.

“The Yazidi community is growing in Toowoomba and will continue to grow next year.”
