MORE than a century old, the rambling homestead Greenhayes, at 418 West St, Kearneys Spring, has hit the market for the first time in 40 years.

With all the old-world features to be expected of a home built in 1914, Greenhayes has five generously-sized bedrooms, three bathrooms, a central lounge with grand fireplace, pressed metal ceilings, large country-style kitchen, sun room, and side veranda for alfresco dining.

The ground level also features large rumpus room with built-in bar, office, spa room and covered entertaining area.

Out the back of the property is a granny flat that has been variously used as visitors’ quarters, vehicle storage, and general storage purposes.

Having been in the hands of the Delaney family since 1983, the home holds a number of special memories - among them the family’s fantastic Christmas lights displays.

The home was one of the original Toowoomba homes to light up at Christmas.

“In 1991 my mum and my brother went to America, so when they came back my mum brought a whole lot of Christmas lights with her,” daughter Leanne Ngaropo recalled.

“They might have put a few lights up that year but it was 1992 when they actually covered the house from ground to roof.”

The decorations drew visitors from around Toowoomba to marvel at the light show each festive season.

Now it’s time for the property to enter a new chapter, having been listed for sale for $895,000.

Set on 2834 sq m of park-like grounds, the home is also close to the University of Southern Queensland.
