AFTER THE LAST

-

THE WIN

PUNTERS narrowed the Three-Year-Old Maiden down to a “two-horse” race with Rock Beat and Diarist dominating betting but it was

ROCK BEAT who did best where it counted with a breezy debut victory for trainer Tony Sears and jockey Emma Ljung.

THE TRAINER

TALENTED but headstrong mare Umawinner has proven a career handful for trainer

LINDSAY HATCH but his hard work and patience could yet pave the way for better things to come after her spirited first-up win for apprentice Baylee Nothdurft in the Class 1 Handicap.

THE RIDER

HOPPING on the right horses helps, but NOZI TOMIZAWA is riding at the top of his game and continued on his merry way with another multiple winning Clifford Park night aboard Bequeathed and Captain Leo.

FROM THE STAND

Race 1: A good betting race to kick off the program and the bookie got to lay most runners. There was good money for Mishani Shiraz at 3.60. Mac’s Gal was backed each-way at $6.50. Brumby Jack was specked at $41. In an interesting betting move off course the winner in Go Get Sum was $21 into $11, then on-course punters took the $12 on offer to give the bookies a small win on the first.

Race 2: Mishani Ruler was backed pre-post and on course from $50 to start $3.80 on the QOP. There was specking each-way for First Witness at $18. The track bookie then went $2.30 Umawinner and was accommodated with good cash bets to give a bad result with the placings.

Race 3: All the early money was on Westbrook Warrior each way at $7. There was rough specking for Silk Topper at $41. The on-track bookie got itchy fingers and went $1.65 on a $1.50 call, Bequeathed, and paid the penalty. Bequeathed looked the winner a long way from home.

Race 5: Diarist was easy to lay. There was a phone bet of $1000 at $3 and smaller cash bets at $2.70. Spirit’s First saw small bets at $6.50. The winner in Rock Beat was $3 into start $2.80 with no bets taken on track.

Race 6: A quiet betting race with phone money on I Know Yves and Taprock. The Currie army must have been celebrating and backed Cupid’s Affair off track with the QOP price going from $4.20 into $3.70. No money came back to the track and the bookie got away with a small win.

Race 7: Fake News saw fair money at $6. There was money off and on course for Ruby Red Slippers. The winner and favourite, Velites, was backed late at $3 for a break square result for the bookie.
