Community rallies for miniature pony mauled by dogs

MORE than $4000 has been raised by the community for the ongoing care of Clementine the miniature pony after she and her friend Charlie the Clydesdale were viciously attacked by dogs last week at the Highfields Pioneer Village.
Charlie is very shaken but Clementine, who is the knee-high to a human, was mauled horrifically by two Great Dane-Arab cross dogs in appearance.
Animal carer Carol Kleinschmidt said Clementine was afraid of letting people touch her head, neck, or shoulders - which is where she was attacked.
“She is on painkillers daily so that she can stand and eat comfortably, our first aid lady is feeding her small pieces of apple from her hand,” she said.
“The dogs had bitten through her jaw muscle, under her leg joint and shoulder, face head and neck.”
Toowoomba Regional Council has been working hard to find the dogs responsible.
The village volunteers have launched a fundraising campaign in order to build a fence so that Clementine and Charlie can roam free without fear of attack.
As of yesterday, $4030 had been raised.
“People have been so wonderful and really care about Clementine. She is well known by many children in the area. We have many animals here at the village but she is a definite favourite,” volunteer manager Ray Ashford OAM said.
Anyone who donates to the village on social media or in person will receive a free adult ticket to the pioneer village.
