Eye behind the camera

A passion for country photography

-

THIS week in Rural Weekly we take a look behind the camera and meet rural photographer Renee Mulcahy.

Mrs Mulcahy has three passions: her husband, her kids and her photography.

Living on an angus stud, Grimstead, in Urbenville, New South Wales, with her husband Cameron and three daughters, Georgia, 10, Natalie, 8, and Bethany, 6, Mrs Mulcahy travels all over Australia photographing weddings.

“It started from stalking my babies, and then friends asked me to photograph theirs. Then it got busy and my husband said ‘you should get paid’,” Mrs Mulcahy said.

“Now a day wouldn’t go by without a camera in my hand.

“I’ve done a few online courses but most of it is selftaught and experimentation.”

Mrs Mulcahy was born and raised in Brisbane, which is where she met her husband when he was playing representative football.

At the age of 21 they were married. When Mrs Mulcahy fell pregnant with their first daughter they decided it was time to move back to the farm.

“Moving out here was easy,” Mrs Mulcahy said.

“Some of my friends come out to visit and say ‘how can you live out here?’

“And I say ‘how could you not?’”

Mrs Mulcahy started her photography business, RNC Photography, in 2014 and has collected three cameras since then and is about to acquire her fourth.

“The last two years is when I really found myself with who I want to be and my style,” Mrs Mulcahy said.

“When I look back I’m horrified at what I used to do.

“But the last few years have been my best.”
