Darling Downs quicks named in Queensland Bulls squad

-

CRICKET: Still chasing their first JLT Sheffield Shield win for the season, the Queensland Bulls have stuck with the same squad that has drawn its past two matches.

Warwick’s Mark Steketee (3-84, pictured) and Toowoomba’s Brendan Doggett (1-105) are both in the team that drew their last start against Western Australia.

Queensland sits in sixth spot after a loss and two draws from the first three matches and will head to the relatively unfamiliar surrounds of Canberra’s Manuka Oval for their clash with fifth-placed NSW from Friday.

Manuka Oval will join the ranks of Australian Test venues this summer when it hosts Sri Lanka in the second Test in early February.

The Bulls have played two Shield matches against NSW at the venue, in 1998-99 and 2012-13, with batsman Joe Burns and paceman Luke Feldman the only players from that match to return in 2018-19.

Queensland have two more matches after the Canberra clash to play before the firstclass competition pauses for the KFC Big Bash League, with the Gabba hosting competition leaders Victoria from November 27 and the Bulls travelling to Tasmania for the match from December 7-10.

THE SQUAD: Jimmy Peirson (c), Joe Burns, Brendan Doggett, Luke Feldman, Sam Heazlett, Charlie Hemphrey, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, Matthew Renshaw, Mark Steketee, Mitch Swepson, Jack Wildermuth.
