Yellowbelly back on the bite after Cooby re-opens
COOBY re-opened during the week and anglers dove straight back into the action with reports of heaps of yellowbelly being on the move.
A slow trolled Tn60 over the weed beds has proved to be the most productive technique with the odd undersized cod caught in the mix.
The bait anglers have had good success off the bank using saltwater yabbies and bloodworms.
Cressbrook Dam
There should be some good fishing at Cressbrook now that the dam is open again.
The large points in the Cressbrook Creek arm have held some great fish over the last few weeks.
Once located among the schools they have reacted well to metal blades and spoons.
The early morning bite will be the best bet to get those fish biting.
Leslie Dam
There are still top reports from Leslie with most anglers having great success either casting or trolling larger spinnerbaits.
The creek bed that runs towards the dam is fishing well for murray cod and yellowbelly.
The old faithful Zx40 has worked wonders if the fish are holding tight to the bottom, other anglers are getting some good fish on saltwater yabbies.
Boondooma Dam
With a recent rise in water level the dam is fishing very well.
The newly formed banks are great for bass and yellowbelly with Lipless crankbaits or spinnerbaits the lure of choice.
There are still good numbers of fish spread out throughout the basin.
Fishing large lake points in this area should see you land some great fish.
Glenlyon Dam
The signs are looking good at
Glenlyon.
There have been good numbers of cod caught during the week casting large spinnerbaits and mumblers amongst the standing timber.
It’s good news considering how hot the water temps have been as the cod are still hunting the bait fish in the shallows and eating a well presented surface bait like the Mudeye Snake or Mega Pompadour.
Gold Coast offshore
With light wind during the week some lucky anglers got out wide to target an array of species.
The 36 and 50 fathom reefs have fished very well for snapper, pearl perch and trag jew.
Fishing the FADs (fish attractant devices) have produced some great dolphin and king fish.
Live baits have worked wonders on these pressured fish and should see you fill your bag limit reasonably quick.
Closer to the Jumpin Pin Bar has seen plenty of mac and long tail tuna getting around – small metal slugs are always a go too on these pelagic fish.
Somerset Dam
The past week at Somerset (pictured right) has been reasonably tough for most anglers.
Trollers had the best luck with the Spit, Pelican Point and beams holding good numbers of fish.
Targeting these fish with spoons and plastics has worked.
Staying on the active fish has been hard due to them moving quite quickly at the moment.
