Pharmacy, post office in one
Cambooya business refurbished
TWO YEARS ago, the Cambooya Post Office was on the brink of closing, according to licensee Ash Strugnell.
Yet now it’s been refurbished, returned to its former glory, and is home to the Cambooya Community Discount Pharmacy, as well as providing mail services.
The arrangement between the pharmacy and the post office provides benefits to both, and with the support of the Cambooya community, the future looks bright for the two businesses.
Officially opened yesterday, Mr Strugnell said the brief ceremony and morning tea was about thanking the community for their support.
“As you ... see in many communities, Australia Post is closing (post offices) down. There’s a struggle for viability.
“This community has kept this post office here.”
The pharmacy opened in August, and while it’s smaller than a typical city pharmacy, offers a range of services to the community, such as discount prescriptions, free medication packs, free blood pressure checks, free home delivery, and more.
Cambooya Community Discount Pharmacy managing pharmacist Rachael Harley said the first few months of operation out of the post office building had been “really positive”.
The establishment of a pharmacy in the rural community means people no longer need to make the run into Drayton for scripts and other medical essentials.
Ms Harley said the pharmacy was still trying to gauge what the community wanted.
“I guess we’re encouraging the community to come and let us know what they want,” she said. The post office and pharmacy can be found at 53 Eton St, Cambooya.
