TOUCH CARNIVAL PROVES A SUCCESS
TOUCH: Kearneys Spring played host to the inaugural Titans Junior Club Challenge at the weekend as teams from across the Downs and beyond descended on the Garden City.
South West Queensland Touch regional administrator Sam Heath said the event, which welcomed 41 teams from 10-16 years and in excess of 450 players, was designed to give more players a go in a carnival-like atmosphere.
“It’s the first year the challenge has been run, and it is a participation event aimed at giving kids an opportunity to participate who normally wouldn’t at tournaments that are usually representative-based,” Heath said.
“It was made open to clubs and smaller affiliates who were able to field a rep team if they had under 30 junior teams.
“Teams from Roma, Chinchilla, Dalby, Springfield Lakes, Arana and Kingaryo participated with clubs from Toowoomba.”
Heath said that the feedback received from various participants had been positive as they looked to grow it even further in 2019.
“We’ve had really good feedback so far,” she said.
“All of the coaches have said it was such a good event for kids who wouldn’t get that chance to participate in the tournament-like event with the marquees.
“It will continue and we’re looking forward to seeing it grow, develop and give more the chance to participate.”
