TOOWOOMBA student Rachael Purdon graduated from the Endeavour Foundation Skill-Up program yesterday, bringing her a step closer to her dream job as an artist.

Miss Purdon’s mentors said she was on her way to achieving that and much more as she accepted her certificate from Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki at the ceremony.

The 10-week program focused on job interview and CV preparation and provided Miss Purdon with work experience at a warehouse.

Miss Purdon, who is a student at Centenary State High School, said she felt the program had prepared her for the future.

“My main job in the warehouse was packing nuts and grain,” Miss Purdon said.

“One of my teachers recommended (the course) to me and I thought it would be interesting and helpful for when I have to start applying for jobs.”

She said the program had made her consider her future options.

“It would be great to become an artist or an animator,” she said.

“I love to draw, especially cartoons of animals and shows I’ve seen - I started making art when I was 10.”

Centenary Heights State School special education teacher Sue Brazier, who spoke at the ceremony, said the program had helped the young student “come out of her shell”.
