ONE of Australia’s most famous veterans in show business celebrates 50 years in the industry in his book.
Glenn Shorrock emigrated with his family in the 1950s as a “10-pound Pom”. From early beginnings, Glenn’s talent took him around the world to international stardom.
In Adelaide, he formed a chart-topping band, The Twilights which won Australia’s Battle of the Bands in 1966.
It was the catalyst for further success with Brian Cadd’s group, Axiom with their hit, A Little Ray of Sunshine becoming a bestseller.
However Glenn is best known as front man in Little River Band which for five years performed around the world, garnering accolades.
Later the band disintegrated and the founding members lost the right to perform under the LRB name.
Bitter controversies ensued; a new band assumed the LRB name and is touring the US as we speak.
Here’s a blow-by-blow account of the politicking and shenanigans that are part and parcel of the music industry.
Drugs, alcohol and gambling all played their part, as did bad advice and ill-timed decisions.
As a musician (and having played several times in the string-backing band for LRB) I could relate to Glenn’s story.
However he has risen above the trauma and the drama to make a fresh name for himself; now in his 70s, Glenn is still a star, charming and as energetic as ever, touring as a solo singer.
