Toowoomba motorists paying too much for fuel

-

ALTHOUGH Toowoomba residents have felt some relief from sky high fuel prices, drivers are still paying too much, according to the state’s peak motoring body.

For the past few weeks Toowoomba drivers have been paying up to 170 cpl for their unleaded fuel.

There has been a sudden plunge in prices, but RACQ says prices are still high in the area and for drivers to possibly wait to fill their tanks.

The RACQ’s Fair Fuel Price is based on market data and research and is what it considers to be a fair fuel price for unleaded petrol in southeast Queensland. It states that although high, the fair fuel price in Toowoomba is 134.1 cpl.

Only one fuel station in town is close to this with the Caltex Woolworths Clifford Gardens at 320 James St selling fuel for 134.7 cpl.

The next two closest are Pacific Fuels Helidon Spa at 136.6 cpl and Pacific Fuels Drayton at 137.6 cpl. From there fuel sits at 138 cpl and above.

The reason for the sudden plunge is due to a drop in the global oil price, and because the southeast is at the bottom of its fuel cycle.

According to RACQ, the worst offenders are the Caltex at 646 Ruthven St and Petrol Fuel and Lubricants at 383 Taylor St, with fuel setting motorists back 159.9 cpl at both.

Compared to other parts of the state, a fair fuel price in Brisbane is 120.9 cpl, the Gold Coast is 123.5 cpl and the Sunshine Coast is 134.9 cpl.
