USQ graduate right as rain in career choice
COME rain or shine, on the land or in the city, Australians rely on the Bureau of Meteorology for forecasts, warnings and analysis every day.
Many Chronicle readers would be familiar with Adam Blazak, one of BoM’s Brisbane-based meteorologists, as he often shares his expertise in this newspaper.
Mr Blazak graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with a post-graduate science degree in 2012 and joined the national weather agency not long after.
“It is a real honour to work as a meteorologist for the Bureau of Meteorology,” he said.
“I still pinch myself because I can’t believe it, it’s a real dream come true.
“I love developing my understanding of all the different ways the atmosphere creates various weather phenomena.
“I also love that there will always be something new to learn, and the opportunity of increasing my understanding by experiencing something I’ve never seen before.”
Mr Blazak said he spoke glowingly of his time studying in Toowoomba and commended its pace of life, the beautiful gardens, and sense of community.
“That community attitude flowed onto the lecturers who taught me,” he said.
“I actually had no idea about how to become a meteorologist, but through USQ I found the right path. My advice for others is to complete a course with third year maths or physics subjects and apply to the BoM graduate program.”
