No one has to spend day alone

FOR Toowoomba residents who have no one to spend Christmas with, there is the Base Services Christmas Day lunch.

It is a lunch that ensures everyone has a special day on December 25.

Not wanting anyone to miss out on the end of year festivities, Peter and Frances Holmes have served lunch to those in need every Christmas for the past 15 years.

It is held at St Luke’s Church from 11.30am to 1pm and Base Services’ Nat and Tiffany Spary invite people who would otherwise spend the day on their own.

With the help of volunteers, the lunch provides a meal and much-needed company.

Mrs Spary said it was a way everyone had the chance to celebrate.

“It is fantastic to once again be partnering with Frances to make sure no one misses out this Christmas,” she said.

“We also take a hamper along to give to everyone who comes and we try and make them individualised.

“One of the children we gave a gift to 13 years ago still has contact with us today.”

As well as handing out hampers Christmas Day, Base Services also distributes hampers to people who are homeless or staying in temporary accommodation. The Toowoomba community is encouraged to donate to the hampers.

Mrs Holmes said it was great to see they were already inundated with offers of help.

“We encourage people to support the many local organisations that provide Christmas hampers and presents to people in need,” she said.

She also wanted everyone to know that they were welcome to attend the lunch.

“We would love to have you as part of our family,” she said.

“There are no strings attached,

just come have lunch and have some fun and share the joy of Christmas with us.”
