VIDEO HAUNTS DEAD BOY’S MUM
THE first the Lasker family knew of Kyle Dumesny’s release from jail on parole was when a video of him smoking and laughing circulated to their friends and family on social media.
Dumesny pleaded guilty to manslaughter after leaving a residence in 2012 hearing screams instead of helping 17year-old Jake Lasker, who was stabbed 102 times by another man.
The court at the time heard he was aware of a plot to kill Jake and was sentenced to a period of seven years in jail.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Jake’s mother Joanne Lasker said she was shocked by the news of his release.
“I just wanted to forget about it all and then I got sent that ... it was hard (to watch).”
THE family of murdered teen Jake Lasker has spoken of their shock after a video of a man convicted of involvement in their son’s killing circulated to their friends and relatives on social media.
Kyle Dumesny is believed to have been released on parole earlier this year, though the video was the first the Lasker family knew of his release.
The Chronicle has obtained the video showing him smoking, laughing and joking with a friend.
In the video, a reference is made to a taser-lighter Dumesny appears to be holding.
Jake Lasker, who would have turned 26 last week, was stabbed 102 times in 2012.
Dumesny was 17 at the time of the attack and pleaded guilty to manslaughter over his involvement in the incident, while Max Smith was convicted of murder for stabbing the victim.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2015 and was eligible to apply for parole last year.
The court at the time heard Dumesny was aware of the plot to kill Jake and moved into another room before the attack took place.
Dumesny had admitted to hearing the screams and leaving the residence instead of going to help.
The video has re-opened old wounds for Jake’s mum Joanne.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“I just wanted to forget about it all and then I got sent that ... it was hard (to watch).”
It is understood Dumesny, who is now using another name on social media, is residing in the Brisbane area and is wearing a monitoring bracelet as part of his parole conditions.
The news comes after a second tragedy hit the Lasker family; the 2017 death of their other son Adam.
“(The video) made me more angry than anything,” Mrs Lasker said.
“Just to see him and what he was doing on parole and how he can get away with something like that.
“I’m just amazed he can do whatever he wants now.”
