THE Queensland Community Achievement Awards put the spotlight on residents from Toowoomba and the surrounding areas for their contribution to the community.

About 400 guests gathered from across the state to the Royal on the Park in Brisbane on Friday to celebrate the awards night.

Toowoomba’s Matthew Gregg won the Australian Pacific LNG Community Hero Award for his contributions through his street outreach program known as the Metro Care Street Crews.

The awards encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions individuals, communities and businesses make throughout Queensland.

Other nominees and finalists from the region included Bill Mason, Genevieve Allpass, Hanna and Aiden Dolphin, India Bryce, TASC National and Toowoomba PCYC.

Hanna and Aiden were nominated for the Australian LNG Community Hero Award for their actions in July when their mother suffered from a brain seizure.

Hanna located her mother’s phone and called the ambulance and her father while Aiden rode his bike up the road to the siblings’ grandparents.

The children’s actions were praised by their parents and the Queensland Ambulance Service.

There were eight category winners from across the state awarded on the night.

Each winner received $2500 award prize from the Commonwealth Bank and a trophy.

The awards night culminated a successful year with hundreds of nominations received from across Queensland.
