State calls on spinner

Cooper Webster is no stranger to the Queensland All Schools Cricket team.

The Our Lady of Lourdes student is back in the side after his 2017 debut but the young bowler is no less excited this time round.

“I think I might be a little more excited,” Webster said.

“Playing at the championships is a little nerve-wracking because you know the quality is going to be high.

“But I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m really happy to be selected again and I just want to give my best shot and maybe help Queensland win a championship.”

Webster will head into a five day training camp this Friday before heading to Bunbury, West Australia for the Australian School Sports Championships next week.

In the side because of his right-arm off-spin abilities, Webster said he was happy to play any role required of him.

“How you bowl depends on the scenario,” he said.

“Sometimes you have to try and slow down the run rate or you might need to get some wickets for your team.

“I’m happy bowling either way, I enjoy the challenge.

“The key to being a good spinner is flight and turn.

“You have to try and get the ball above the batsman’s eyeline so they play and miss.

“After I pick my spot that’s what I try to do.”
