Twins are in two minds about the end of Prep
TEACHERS at Mater Dei Primary School have been seeing double ever since four sets of twins started Prep in January.
Now the group is preparing to bid farewell to their first year of schooling, their entry into Year 1 bringing mixed emotions. Non-identical twins Max and Hugo Brownsdon have their sights set on the new year and beyond.
“I am excited (about Year 1), but I am more excited for when we finish grade 12, because then we go and get to have a giant party in Brisbane,” Max said.
“I like Prep, because we get to eat and play all the time,” Hugo said.
Georgia and Helena Saunders were sad to say goodbye to their Prep class.
“This year has been good, I like craft and getting new friends,” Georgia said.
“I feel scared (about Year 1) as I’m not sure if I will know what to do.”
“I just like spending time with my sister,” Helena said.
Prep school teacher Rebecca Logan said the incidence of so many twins in a cohort of 75 was “unusual”.
“It’s quite rare to have four sets of twins enrolled in the same year,” Ms Logan said.
“But it has been fascinating getting to know their personalities and differences.
“As much as they look alike they are still just growing into their own little people.”
Ms Logan said the twins’ apprehensions would fade once they acclimatised to a new part of the school.
“The ones in my class are really excited to go onto year one,” she said.
“Some of them are a little bit nervous because the environment changes.
“They have to go to a different part of the school with different children that are often bigger than them.
“It will be a big step for them, but it will be fun when they get used to it.”
