Mad about theatrics

-

DALBY: Two young people from Dalby are working to combat the mental health issues faced by many in rural areas.

George Harris and Bridget Ward were declared winners of the Business Navigator’s Pitch Challenge Finals Night.

Combining their love of theatre and their passion for mental health, Maybe Mad Theatre Company uses performance-based education in schools to address mental health issues associated with living in isolated communities.

“We literally just finished university this year and this has really pushed us to have a bit more structure with our business,” Ms Ward said.

“We are so grateful for this opportunity and winning this means we can now travel out to regional areas and help those communities.

“We are really passionate about this so the money means the world to us.”

Mr Harris agreed, saying the prizemoney affirmed a consensus that younger generations should pursue their dreams.

Attracting more than 150 people on the night, the event showcased the business ideas of nine finalists from the Western Downs region.

The challenge is supported by the Shell QGC Social Investment Program and its commitment to supporting start-ups and growing businesses. Reporting by the Dalby Herald.
