THE Bridge St Quarry Gardens project could take a step closer to fruition, with the Toowoomba Regional Council to debate the project at a meeting today.

It comes more than a year since the State Government gave the council $250,000 to develop a feasibility study into the gardens, which has been a long-held dream for some residents.

Now the council will debate the findings from the study and decide whether to progress.

Friends of the Quarry Gardens chair Sarah Delahunty said she hoped the council would give the project a clear path to be developed.

“I hope that they take into consideration the work the group has already done,” she said.

“I hope they also look at management models so our group can manage and progress.”

The concept of the Quarry Gardens, which has been discussed for decades, re-entered the public discourse after the State Government became interested again last year.

Ms Delahunty said the feedback from all levels of the community for the project had been positive.

“Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise have listed it as their number one infrastructure priority,” she said.

“We have support from both levels of government and tourism bodies.

“There’s been no push back from community groups - we are really interested in the groups to progress it.” The meeting will be held at 9am.
