Lifeline Darling Downs embraces new Container Refund Scheme
You can assist those in need and help protect the environment
ON NOVEMBER 1, Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Qld Ltd (in partnership with Return–It) opened their first Container Refund Depot at their 187A Perth Street store as part of Queensland’s Containers for Change initiative.
The organisation has since installed ‘Express Machines’ at their Toowoomba Anzac Avenue, New Street Centre Dalby and Albion Street Warwick stores.
With Lifeline Darling Downs already in the recycling and re–purposing business with their 16 ‘op’ shops, the progression into the Containers for Change program was a natural fit.
The initiative also provided an opportunity to further extend their protection of the environment.
In the first six weeks of operation they processed more than 500,000 containers that otherwise would have ended up in landfill.
At their Perth Street depot, customers have the option of dropping off their eligible containers and receiving an instant refund, using the ‘Express Machine’ where the funds are transferred into a nominated bank account (on set up of their Scheme ID) or donating their funds to a charity registered

with the scheme.
While some container refund facilities are income–generating, for Lifeline Darling Downs the proceeds help continue Lifeline’s vital free community services and crisis– support services to assist people living in Toowoomba, on the Darling Downs and in south west Queensland.
Customers have the option to donate their refund to the organisation by simply selecting Scheme ID C10004170 when they are processing their returns.
The Perth Street depot is located at the Lifeline store, 187A Perth Street, which is the ideal location with ample parking and refund options.
